Passi avanti

L'ISI Web of Science di Thomson Reuters ha pubblicato il 30 luglio 2014 i suoi Journal Citation Reports per tutte le riviste scientifiche, in cui per ognuna compare il tanto famoso, famigerato ma comunque agognato impact factor (IF).

Per la SIF e le sue attività editoriali proprie e a partenariato europeo, nell'attuale mondo delle pubblicazioni scientifiche in rapida evoluzione verso molteplici modalità di open access, le cose sono andate piuttosto bene. Infatti tutte le riviste di cui la SIF si occupa, a vari livelli, hanno fatto passi avanti.

Nella serie EPJ (The European Physical Journal), pubblicata da EDP Sciences (la componente editoriale della SFP-Société Française de Physique), dalla Società Italiana di Fisica e da Springer, troviamo 6 riviste derivate dalla fusione in passato delle varie rispettive sezioni de Il Nuovo Cimento, Journal de Physique e Zeitschrift für Physik:

EPJ A – Hadrons and Nuclei
EPJ B – Condensed Matter and Complex Systems
EPJ C – Particles and Fields
EPJ D – Atomic, Molecular, Optical and Plasma Physics
EPJ E – Soft Matter and Biological Physics
EPJ Plus

Il coinvolgimento della SIF per queste riviste è variegato e va dalla sola gestione dell'ufficio editoriale (EPJ C) o dalla lavorazione dei testi e produzione degli articoli (EPJ E), all'intera responsabilità della rivista (EPJ A, EPJ Plus). Alcune riviste della serie (EPJ B, EPJ D) sono invece gestite completamente da EDP Sciences, che si fa anche carico dell'ufficio editoriale di EPJ E.

Ebbene, l'IF di tutte queste riviste, tranne nel caso di EPJ D, è sensibilmente cresciuto dal 2012 al 2013, come illustrato nella seguente tabella.

L'ultima arrivata della serie, EPJ Plus, che è la continuazione in formato solo elettronico (online only) de Il Nuovo Cimento B, però con un ampliamento interdisciplinare delle sue tematiche, ha avuto il suo primo IF nel 2012. In un anno questo è cresciuto del 13% mentre nel frattempo il numero di articoli pubblicati è quasi raddoppiato!

Anche EPL (Europhysics Letters in precedenza), la rivista di lettere che la SIF pubblica in collaborazione con EPS–European Physical Society, EDP Sciences e IOP Publishing (la componente editoriale dell'IOP–Institute of Physics), ha essenzialmente mantenuto il suo livello di IF rispetto all'anno precedente, con un leggerissimo aumento.

Last but not least, La Rivista del Nuovo Cimento, interamente di proprietà della SIF e interamente curata dalla SIF, ha ottenuto un ottimo risultato con i suoi sempre interessanti ed esaurienti articoli di rassegna che spaziano su tutti i campi della ricerca.

On 30 July 2014 the Thomson Reuters ISI Web of Science has published its Journal Citation Reports for all scientific journals, where to each of them the so famous, notorious but however desired Impact Factor (IF) is assigned.

As for SIF, with both its own publishing activities and those carried out through European partnership, in the current scenario of scientific publications rapidly evolving towards various open access schemes, things have gone rather well. Actually all the journals in which SIF is involved, at various levels, have made a step forward.

In the EPJ (The European Physical Journal) series, jointly published by EDP Sciences (the editorial subsidiary of SFP–Société Française de Physique), the Italian Physical Society (SIF) and Springer, there are 6 journals derived from the former merging of the various respective sections of Il Nuovo Cimento, Journal de Physique and Zeitschrift für Physik:

EPJ A – Hadrons and Nuclei
EPJ B – Condensed Matter and Complex Systems
EPJ C – Particles and Fields
EPJ D – Atomic, Molecular, Optical and Plasma Physics
EPJ E – Soft Matter and Biological Physics
EPJ Plus

The involvement of SIF in these journals is multifaceted, ranging from the management of the editorial office only (EPJ C) or from the text processing and article production (EPJ E), to the complete publishing responsibility (EPJ A, EPJ Plus). Other sections of the EPJ series are completely (EPJ B, EPJ D) run by EDP Sciences, which also takes care of the editorial office of EPJ E.

Well, the IF of all these journals , with the only exception of EPJ D, has sizeably grown from 2012 to 2013 as can be seen in the following table.

The newcomer of the EPJ series, EPJ Plus, which is the electronic only continuation of Il Nuovo Cimento B, but covering a wider interdisciplinary scope, has obtained its first IF in 2012. In one year this has increased by 13%, while the number of published articles has almost doubled!

Also EPL (formerly Europhysics Letters), the letter journal that SIF publishes in collaboration with EPS-European Physical Society, EDP Sciences and IOP Publishing (the publishing subsidiary of the IOP-Institute of Physics), has essentially maintained its IF level with respect to the previous year, with a very slight increase.

Last but not least, La Rivista del Nuovo Cimento, solely owned by SIF and entirely managed by SIF, has achieved a remarkable result with its always interesting and exhaustive review articles spanning all research fields.
