Physics, Peace, Human Rights: Celebrating Andrei Sakharov

The American Physical Society’s Committee on the International Freedom of Scientists, Forums on International Physics, Physics & Society, and the History of Physics, together with the Russian-American Science Association, have jointly organized a free webinar “Physics, Peace, Human Rights – Sakharov-100: Celebrating Andrei Sakharov’s Contributions to Science and Humanity”. It will take place on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT (from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. CEST), the day of the 100th birthday of famed physicist and human rights activist Andrei Sakharov (1921-1989).

This webinar event will comprise four sessions covering Sakharov’s many contributions to a wide range of topics and their modern developments including astrophysics, fusion energy, arms control, and human rights. Physicists who worked alongside Sakharov, his step-daughter and a granddaughter will be among the distinguished invited speakers.
