Atti di Conferenze The Legacy of Bruno Pontecorvo: the Man and the Scientist
Il volume raccoglie i contributi della conferenza internazionale "The Legacy of Bruno Pontecorvo: the Man and the Scientist" organizzata nel settembre del 2013 all'Università di Roma "La Sapienza".

L. Maiani
The see-saw mechanism is illustrated, for one and three neutrino generations, and neutrinoless double beta decay is considered. Neutrino mixing and oscillations in three flavors are described. The Yukawa couplings to the Higgs field of quarks and leptons are considered, their transformation properties under the corresponding flavor groups are spelled out and the principle of Minimal Flavor Violation is illustrated. The idea that the Yukawa couplings may be the vacuum expectation value of some new fields is introduced and natural extrema of potentials, invariant under quark and lepton flavor groups, are characterized. An indication of large mixing of almost degenerate neutrinos is derived.

Il Nuovo Cimento Selection of the best communications presented at the
XCIX National Congress of the Italian Physical Society
Trieste, 23-27 September 2013
As now customary, this issue of Il Nuovo Cimento is dedicated to a selection of the best communications at the XCIX National Congress of the Italian Physical Society, held in Trieste on 23-27 September 2013, by a number of young, talented members of the Society. The National Congress is a good occasion to prize these young physicists of different fields with a rapid publication of their results and Il Nuovo Cimento is particularly suitable to comprehensively highlight them.

EPJE Recent Highlights Rotational propulsion enabled by inertia
The fluid mechanics of small-scale locomotion has recently attracted considerable attention, due to its importance in cell motility and the design of artificial micro-swimmers for biomedical applications. This new study investigates a simple propulsion mechanism – an up-down asymmetric dumbbell rotating about its axis of symmetry – unable to propel in the absence of inertia in a Newtonian fluid. The optimal dumbbell geometry is also derived and it is shown that the direction of propulsion enabled by inertia is opposite to that induced by viscoelasticity.
