Com'è bello navigare attraverso la storia della SIF

Nel 2022 la Società Italiana di Fisica (SIF) ha compiuto 125 anni e nel 2023 la sua Scuola Internazionale di Fisica Enrico Fermi ha compiuto 70 anni.

Sin dalla sua fondazione nel 1897, la SIF ha organizzato una serie di incontri periodici in cui si svolgevano le Assemblee Generali dei soci. Nel 1947, sulla scia di una forte ripresa della vita societaria e della crescita del numero dei soci, questi incontri sono diventati dei Congressi Nazionali annuali. Quest’anno il Congresso è il 109°. A Varenna i corsi organizzati nell’ambito della Scuola Enrico Fermi a partire dal 1953 sono stati 212 e ben 63 vincitori di Nobel vi hanno tenuto lezioni. Alla presidenza della SIF si sono avvicendati 17 noti scienziati, tra cui due donne. Tanti sono i premi che la SIF attribuisce ai suoi soci, alcuni di carattere internazionale. E molto fiorente è l'attività editoriale che spazia dalle riviste propriamente SIF (5), alle riviste a partenariato europeo (7) in collaborazione con altre società scientifiche e con Springer Nature, alle collane di proceedings dei corsi di Varenna, ai volumi commemorativi o antologici ecc.

I grandi traguardi della SIF vanno dovutamente ricordati, celebrati e illustrati. La SIF ha pensato di farlo in due modalità. La prima, più tradizionale, consiste nella riedizione di una brochure intitolata “125 anni e oltre”, liberamente scaricabile a questo link, che ripercorre l’evoluzione della Società negli anni.

La seconda, più innovativa, consiste in una realizzazione web interattiva, scaricabile a questo link, in cui, tramite la simulazione di un vero e proprio web-touchscreen, è possibile navigare attraverso la storia della SIF con una galleria di immagini suggestive che possono essere fatte scorrere, quasi come nella ripresa in piano sequenza di un film. Insieme alle immagini scorrono anche degli scritti esplicativi, molto concisi ma essenziali, come didascalie delle immagini stesse. Piccola precisazione tecnica: è preferibile usare Safari come browser e, data la presenza di numerose immagini, occorre avere la pazienza di aspettare qualche secondo per il completamento del download.

I testi sono in italiano e in inglese, sia per la brochure sia per il web-touchscreen. Quest’ultimo si deve allo studio camerAnebbia, specializzato nella realizzazione di eventi e percorsi espositivi interattivi, soprattutto nel campo della comunicazione scientifica. Lo studio fa capo a Marco Barsottini, Matteo Cellini e Lorenzo Sarti, i quali hanno ben saputo interpretare lo spirito e l’ecletticità della SIF come antica e vivace società scientifica e rinomata casa editrice.

Potete anche divertirvi con un piccolo video che è già stato presentato nel 2022 e proiettato sulla suggestiva facciata di Villa Monastero a Varenna in occasione del simposio “Passion for Science – Facing Global Challenges” che festeggiava i 125 anni della SIF e l’IYBSSD2022 (International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development).

L’auspicio è che queste iniziative possano ulteriormente avvicinare soci, lettori e utenti alla nostra Società che tanto ha avuto e ha ancora da raccontare.

In 2022 the Italian Physical Society (SIF) turned 125 years old and in 2023 its International School of Physics Enrico Fermi turned 70 years old.

Since its foundation in 1897, the SIF has organised a series of periodic meetings at which General Assemblies of its members were held. In 1947, in the wake of a strong revival in the life of the Society and the growth in membership, these meetings became annual National Congresses. This year's Congress is the 109th. There have been 212 courses organised at the Enrico Fermi School in Varenna since 1953 and no less than 63 Nobel laureates have lectured there. Seventeen distinguished scientists have held the presidency of the SIF, including two women. Many are the prizes that SIF awards to its members, some of an international dimension. And the publishing activity is very flourishing, ranging from the journals proper to SIF (5), to the European partnership journals (7) in collaboration with other scientific societies and Springer Nature, to the series of proceedings of the Varenna courses, to commemorative or anthological volumes, etc.

SIF's great achievements should be duly remembered, celebrated and illustrated. SIF has thought of doing this in two ways. The first, more traditional, consists of the re-edition of a brochure entitled "125 years and beyond", freely downloadable at this link , which traces the evolution of the Society over the years.

The second, more innovative, consists of an interactive web realisation, downloadable at this link, in which, through the simulation of a actual web-touchscreen, it is possible to navigate through the history of SIF with a gallery of evocative images that can be scrolled through, almost as in a film sequence shot. Along with the images, explanatory writings also scroll by, very concise but essential, as captions to the images themselves. Small technical clarification: it is preferable to use Safari as a browser and, given the presence of numerous images, it is advisable to have the patience to wait a few seconds for the download to complete.

The texts are in Italian and English, both for the brochure and for the web-touchscreen. The latter is by the studio camerAnebbia, specialised in the realisation of events and interactive exhibition routes, especially in the field of scientific communication. The studio is run by Marco Barsottini, Matteo Cellini and Lorenzo Sarti, who have successfully interpreted the spirit and eclecticism of SIF as an ancient and lively scientific society and reputed publishing house.
