È online l'ultimo numero: Il Nuovo Saggiatore Vol. 29, anno 2013, N. 5-6

N. Poli, C. W. Oates, P. Gill, G. M. Tino

In the last ten years extraordinary results in time and frequency metrology have been demonstrated. Frequency-stabilization techniques for continuous-wave lasers and femtosecond optical frequency combs have enabled a rapid development of frequency standards based on optical transitions in ultra-cold neutral atoms and trapped ions. As a result, today's best performing atomic clocks tick at an optical rate and allow scientists to perform high-resolution measurements with a precision approaching a few parts in 1018.

EPJ Plus
EPJ Plus EPJ Plus is a peer-reviewed electronic only section of the European Physical Journal (EPJ) series and was launched in 2011 as a continuation of Il Nuovo Cimento B (NCB). The aims of the journal are to distribute and archive all relevant material required to document, assess, and reconstruct in detail the body of knowledge in Physics. The scope encompasses a broad landscape of fields and disciplines in the physical and related sciences - such as covered by the topical EPJ journals - with the explicit addition of geophysics, astrophysics, general relativity and cosmology, mathematical and quantum physics, classical and fluid mechanics - which were covered by NCB -, as well as physics techniques applied to any other topics, including energy, environment and cultural heritage.
